Keeping it Real: The Postman, Pre-Orders and Putting Dummies Through a Cement Mixer
This is the first note in a new series we’re calling Keeping It Real — an open look at my journey with TWELVEBORE, the highs, the stumbles, and everything in between.
Two lovely moments this week rather sum up where we are on this journey.
First: our postman asked for a catalogue. When the chap delivering your parcels wants to see what you're making — you must be doing something right.
Second: to everyone pre-ordering — thank you. After the time, effort, and frankly the money we’re pouring into British manufacturing and sustainable materials, your support keeps us going.
Earlier this week DHL delivered our third round of shirt samples. There’s a hilarious mistake with the modesty buttons in entirely the wrong place — a rare Friday error, according to the manufacturer. They’re sorting it.
More gundog dummy samples have arrived too, ready for proper testing: cement mixer, Land Rover, tractor. All part of the fun.
As an amateur handler, I’m proud of our gundog dummies. We’ve worked with experienced handlers to solve real challenges — and cracked sustainability. They’re firmer too; feedback confirms it.
Polos are proving interesting — a shotgun muzzle looks like a figure of eight through the embroidery machine, so we’re refining our logo.
Ties are next — beautiful pink and green toothpick fabric, with samples due this month.
Now, the honest bit about cost.
We’ve decided to cap some limited runs at even smaller numbers so that we avoid passing on additional expenses onto you. Our small-batch, hand-knitted pieces demand enormous skill — and that work is valuable. We’re going to finish the blended yarns we have already purchased with a very limited run before Christmas, then we’ll reassess.
Next week brings two important meeting updates — one with a talented leathersmith, another with a decorated gundog handler. Both will help shape what we’re building for those in the field.
Finally, it’s good to see the birds up and flying. For those out shooting — shoot straight and enjoy the season.
Right, bobble hat on. Dogs need walking.
